Gumnuts - Interesting Notes

  • The Eucalyptus caesia or Silver Princess is a small gum tree indigenous to the wheatbelt of Western Australia. The ‘silver’ refers to the white powder that covers the branches, flower buds and fruit.

  • Wildlife food - cockatoos and parrots often chew the nuts open to reach the seeds.

  • Symbolism - Gumnuts are often seen as a symbol of new beginnings, resilience, and the beauty of the Australian bush.

  • Gumnuts became world-famous thanks to Australian author May Gibbs, who created the beloved characters Snugglepot and Cuddlepie—little “gumnut babies” living in the bush.
