Rose Mallee - Interesting Notes
Rose Mallee (eucalyptus rhodantha), also known as Mottlecah, is an ornamental tree in the Eucalyptus family with vibrant red flowers and silvery-grey leaves.
It grows naturally only in a small area of southwest Western Australia, around Morawa and Perenjori. Because of this limited range, it’s listed as threatened in the wild.
Flowers are adapted for bird pollination, especially honeyeaters, which are attracted to the bright colors and abundant nectar.
Its juvenile and adult leaves are round and silver-grey, quite different from the long, narrow leaves most people associate with eucalypts.
