Rose Mallee - Interesting Notes

  • Rose Mallee (eucalyptus rhodantha), also known as Mottlecah, is an ornamental tree in the Eucalyptus family with vibrant red flowers and silvery-grey leaves.

  • It grows naturally only in a small area of southwest Western Australia, around Morawa and Perenjori. Because of this limited range, it’s listed as threatened in the wild.

  • Flowers are adapted for bird pollination, especially honeyeaters, which are attracted to the bright colors and abundant nectar.

  • Its juvenile and adult leaves are round and silver-grey, quite different from the long, narrow leaves most people associate with eucalypts.
